FOR MAC OS DEVELOPERS

Apple and Microsoft to Unify Java Technologies for the Macintosh

Apple and Microsoft announced plans to converge their Java technologies for the Macintosh to create a single Java Virtual Machine for Mac OS. The unified Virtual Machine (VM) will be based on Apple's Mac OS Runtime for Java (MRJ) and will incorporate a variety of Microsoft technologies for Java. Currently, both companies offer Java VMs for the Mac OS. The companies' cooperation on Java technology promises to advance the performance, robustness, and functionality of Java support for the Macintosh and promote greater consistency for Java implementations across Mac OS- and Windows-based computers.

Apple Data Detectors Extends the Mac OS Interface

Apple Data Detectors (ADD) 1.0.2 is a new technology that enables your computer to recognize and act on certain types of information in your documents. For example, if you have a word processing document that contains several e-mail addresses, Apple Data Detectors can quickly scan the document, identify all e-mail addresses, and open a new e-mail message addressed to the one you select. You can also use Apple Data Detectors to find web addresses within an e-mail message and open selected web pages within a browser program. http://swupdates.info.apple.com/cgi-bin/pointer.pl?Apple.Support.Area/Apple.Software.Updates/ US/Macintosh/System/Other_System/ADD-IAD_1.0.2.img.hqx
