[1] Magazine Ad Discounts for Mac OS X Developers
Macworld and MacHome magazines, in conjunction with the Apple Developer Connection, have designed a low-cost advertising program for ADC Premier and Select members who are developing Mac OS X compliant software and hardware.

The Mac OS X Developer Showcase is a special advertising section that will run from October 2000 through the first quarter of 2001 in both magazines. The section will focus audience attention on your Mac OS X-compatible products. You won't want to miss out on this great opportunity to reach a targeted Macintosh audience at a great price.

[2] Media Replication Discounts from CD CyClone
CD CyClone is a leading developer of CD-R duplication and replication products/services. CD CyClone's replication services include glass masters, color silk-screen printing, insertion of printed inserts, and quality jewel cases, all of which can be assembled and delivered. [3] ADC Terms and Conditions Update
Please note that we've updated the online Terms and Conditions on the ADC Member Site as follows:

Terms and Conditions, section 3 addition:
"Certain third party software provided by Apple, however, may be accompanied by different licensing terms, in which case such licensing terms will govern your use of that particular third party software."

Terms and Conditions, section 5 change:
You agree that if the software is accompanied by a license agreement, prior to downloading the software you will read the license agreement, and if you decide to download the software, your use of the software will be governed by the terms and conditions set forth in such license agreement. (Removed the phrase "in addition to the terms and conditions set forth herein".)

Prototype Site License Agreement, section 3 addition:
(e) any third party software and/or documentation provided by Apple and accompanied by licensing terms that do not impose confidentiality obligations on the use or disclosure of such software and/or documentation, for example, software governed by the GNU General Public License(s).

There are additional minor grammatical changes and the term "Licensee" has been changed to "You" throughout the document. The PDF document is also available at http://developer.apple.com/membership/terms.pdf. The next time you log in to the ADC Member Site you will be required to click "Agree" to continue.

[4] Kodak Licenses Apple's QuickTime
Eastman Kodak Company announced that it has licensed Apple's QuickTime for future Kodak digital cameras currently in development. The licensing agreement allows Kodak to build and sell digital cameras that let users quickly and easily create video clips in the popular cross-platform QuickTime.

[5] Spanish iMac Now Available in the U.S.
U.S. customers can now select a Spanish or English version of the iMac. To purchase a Spanish iMac, customers call 1-800-MY-APPLE, where they'll be able to talk to a Spanish-speaking sales agent.

[6] Third-Party Peripheral News: OrangeLink+ FireWire 1394/SCSI Card

The OrangeLink+ FireWire 1394+SCSI U2W PCI card is a combination card that hosts FireWire 1394 ports and a high performance SCSI interface on a single card, saving a valuable PCI slot.

[7] Web Development Tool News: VSE Be Found 1.7.1

VSE Be Found 1.7.1 from Voget Selbach Enterprises is a standalone search engine submitter for the Macintosh. It includes four different programs in one inexpensive package: a keyword finder, a META tag manager, a search engine submitter, and an FTP client. This version updates the search engine scripts for FAST Search (AllTheWeb.com) and Funkycat Search.

[8] System Administration Tool News: Eudora 4.3.2 Updater

Eudora 4.3.2 Updaters from Qualcomm are now available. (Eudora is a popular electronic mail client application.) Updaters on this page, which are free to Eudora 4.3 and Eudora Pro 4.x users, activate the latest Eudora 4.3 release.

[9] Where to Find Mac OS X DP4 Information
For late breaking news about Mac OS X Developer Preview Release 4 (DP4), visit Apple's Mac OS X web site.

The pre-release versions of IPv6 and IPsec technologies for Mac OS X are available for download via the ADC Software Seeding Site. They require DP4, and contain a new Kernel, Headers, Libraries and Tools for using IPv6 and IPsec on Mac OS X. (IPv6 is a proposed standard for next-generation IP implementations. IPsec is a proposed standard for conducting secure IP traffic over the Internet.)

[10] New Project Builder Released with Mac OS X DP4
Project Builder is Apple's integrated development environment (IDE) for Mac OS X. It is designed to fully support all of the major platform initiatives of Mac OS X, such as the Carbon and Cocoa frameworks, Java, and the new application packaging mechanisms. Project Builder provides project editing, search, and navigation, file editing, project building, and debugging facilities for all types of Mac OS X software projects, including applications, tools, frameworks, libraries, plug-in bundles, kernel extensions. and device drivers. It supports the use of C, C++, Objective C, and Java.

[11] New Releases: Ethernet Update 1.0, MacsBug 6.6.1

Ethernet Update 1.0 improves the reliability of Ethernet in certain rare network configurations. These configurations are typically 10 Mbit networks which include coax (10Base5 or 10Base2) network segments in large single collision domains that have carrier collision dropout or that use smaller-than-standard interpacket gaps. This update replaces the old Mac OS ROM file with the new 3.8 version.

MacsBug 6.6.1 is a utility that generates information when a system crashes. This tool is ideal for programmers who need to determine why a program is crashing and what they need to fix it. This MacsBug file is the one that goes in the System Folder: for the complete utility, download version 6.6.

[14] Useful Utilities: CDFinder 2.8, Data Rescue 3.0a, iEdit 2.0.1, MoreOSA, Tex-Edit Plus 3.0.2, Thing Detective 1.0

CDFinder 2.8 by Norbert M. Doerner helps you quickly create catalog files of your hard disks, floppies, and ZIP media. It has a great user interface and very useful search functions. This version includes a number of new features and bug fixes. It has a multilingual user interface, supporting German, French, English, Italian, Swedish, and Chinese languages.

Data Rescue 3.0a by Sylvain Demongeot is a tool that recovers files and folders from crashed hard disks, floppy disks, or removable cartridges. Recovered data is saved to another medium, leaving the original disk untouched.

iEdit 2.0.1 from PineHill Products is a timesaving programming tool for users who program in C or C++. iEdit helps you efficiently write code. For example, to show a window, just click on the "Show a Window" button on the user friendly toolbar, type in the resource ID, and iEdit creates all the source code for you.

MoreOSA from Jon Pugh is a free C++ object for compiling and running OSA scripts from files and resources.

Tex-Edit Plus 3.0.2 from Trans-Tex Software adds support for embedded QuickTime movies and other enhancements to this scriptable, styled text editor. This version includes the Speech Dictionary, full support for viewing and manipulating QuickDraw 3D models (images), and some bug fixes.

Thing Detective 1.0 from Unthinkable Research is a new utility that provides detailed information about components on Mac OS computers. It's an indispensable tool that can be used to help develop and debug components, to learn how to use the components provided by QuickTime and the Mac OS operating system, and to determine what component capabilities are available on Mac OS computers.
