2002 Sessions Available on ADC TV and DVD-ROM
Worldwide Developers Conference 2002 Sessions on ADC TV
are the best source for learning pre-release details about Mac
OS X v10.2 Jaguar (shipping August 24). ADC Select members may
purchase access to all ADC TV sessions (accompanied by a DVD-ROM
set) or they may choose to purchase access to selected sessions.
The individual session sets are:
For QuickTime
6 clients, all ADC TV content now supports the "Instant-On"
feature. If you have QuickTime 6 installed, Instant-On enables
you to quickly go to any part of a session and find the information
you're looking for, without delays. Note: After you've installed
QuickTime 6, you must enable Instant-On. Click on QuickTime in
System Preferences, select the Connection tab and click the "Instant
On..." button. Select the checkbox labeled
"Enable Instant-On" and click OK.
All WWDC 2002 attendees as well as Premier members have free
access to ADC TV and will receive a DVD-ROM set when it becomes
available in August.

Unveils Shake 2.5 for Mac OS X
Apple announced Shake 2.5, the industry-leading compositing
and visual effects software, is available for the first time for
Mac OS X. Shake has been used in the production of over a hundred
motion pictures including the past five winners of the Academy
Award for
Best Visual Effects: Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the
Ring, Gladiator, The Matrix, What Dreams May Come and Titanic.

Team Requests Feedback
Apple's Portables development team would like to know how they're
doing with the PowerBook and iBook. From your perspective as users
and developers, please comment on current PowerBook and/or iBook
product features and functionalities that are compelling to PC
users looking to switch. Please categorize your comments as hardware,
software, and Mac OS, and email
them before August 10, 2002.

Web Developer's Edition, Perlidex 1.0
eSuite4X Web Developer's
Edition makes it easy to create local copies of your production
system databases or publish your web site to any web hosting provider.
eSuite4X is specially designed for web site developers working
with Mac OS X and Macromedia's Dreamweaver, Adobe GoLive or any
other WebDAV enabled web authoring application.
Perlidex
1.0 is a Perl development environment and front end for Mac
OS X. New features in this version include the ability to find
and
install Perl Modules, and improvements to the documentation.
[5] System Administration Tool News: PageSentry
PageSentry
4.1 is an Internet server early warning and failure recovery
solution for Mac OS X. This update release adds sample scripts
for maintenance, historical report updates, remote test triggers,
improvements to stability, performance, and various bug fixes.

Bluetooth Technology Preview 2.1, iDVD 2.1 Updater, Disc Recording
1.3.4 Update, Security Update 7-18-02, Xserve Update 1.0 for Mac
OS X
Bluetooth
Technology Preview 2.1 allows Mac OS X users to use a Bluetooth
enabled mobile phone for Internet connection, perform a HotSync
operation with a Palm handheld device, and exchange files between
two Bluetooth enabled computers.
iDVD 2.1
Updater adds DVD-ROM data support, AppleScript support, enhancements
to the burning process, and general performance improvements.
Disc
Recording 1.3.4 Update delivers additional iTunes and Finder
support for a number of LaCie, EZquest, and Iomega CD-R devices.
For a specific list of supported devices, visit the Apple
CD-R compatibility site.
Security
Update 7-18-02 delivers a more secure Software Update service,
as well as an updated Software Update command line tool, to
verify that future updates originate from Apple.
Xserve
Update 1.0 for Mac OS X provides updates and enhancements
to the serial port, ATA hard disk drivers, server assistant,
and server monitoring functions of Xserve. Xserve Update 1.0
includes a new version of the Server Monitor and Server Assistant
applications. These updated applications are installed by the
update in the /Applications/Utilities folder. It is recommended
that client
computers running these administrative tools update to the new
versions by copying the application from an updated Xserve.

The Aqua Designer's Toolbox, Embedding F-Script into Cocoa
Applications
O'Reilly MacDevCenter author Alan Graham provides a run-down
of some of the useful
tools for graphic designers as they relate to working on
Aqua user interfaces for their applications under Mac OS X.
He provides an overview of some of the tools in the designer's
toolbox.
O'Reilly MacDevCenter author Philippe Mougin explores
F-Script, the lightweight object-oriented scripting layer,
as it pertains to developing Cocoa applications.

Releases Developer Version with 1.0 Base
OpenOffice.org's Mac OS X porting team has successfully
built the first version of OpenOffice.org from the final 1.0 source
base. OpenOffice.org is looking for developers to help test, debug,
and implement missing features to complete this port.

Dantz Retrospect 5.0 Driver Update Version 2.8, eAuthorize
3.0 Plug-In, NAGWare f95 Compiler Version 4.2
Dantz Retrospect 5.0 Driver
Update Version 2.8 is a plug-in extension for Retrospect
5.0. It is not for use with the 4.3 or 4.2 versions of Retrospect
or Retrospect Express. This driver update provides support for
a variety of drives.
eAuthorize 3.0
Plug-In allows authorizing of credit cards and echecks from
your FileMaker Pro solution. The eAuthorize plug-in will authorize
transactions securely and quickly, over your Internet connection.
eAuthorize plug-in provides a direct tie in to Authorize.net
and PlanetPayment, allowing authorization in almost any currency.
eAuthorize plug-in for FileMaker is available for Mac OS X.
NAGWare
f95 Compiler Version 4.2 for Mac OS X brings full Fortran
95
standards compliance, Fortran 2000 features, and the capability
to
readily handle legacy code.

Tool News: Premiere 6.5, "What Profile?"
Adobe
Premiere 6.5, a tool for professional digital video editing,
provides new features and support for Mac OS X. Features include
Real-Time Preview, Adobe Title Designer, Adobe MPEG Encoder, DVD
Authoring, MPEG-2 export, audio tools, and more.
"What
Profile?" an ICC color management tool for graphics and
imaging professionals, presents you with four versions of an image,
each viewed through a different ICC source profile. The most appropriate
profile can be easily attached to an image and control returned
to Adobe Photoshop. "What Profile" can be used as both
a Photoshop plug-in and as a stand-alone application. "What
Profile? runs under Mac OS X.

OSXFAQ and The Mac Trainers are offering a series of seminars
dealing with understanding and administrating Mac OS X v10.2 Jaguar.
These two-day seminars, called "Taming Jaguar-Understanding
and Administrating Mac OS X," are designed for powers users
and
administrators. You will learn the intricacies surrounding this
major update by covering recent hardware changes, understanding
the System, tackling security issues, remote administration, networking,
and much more. Day two includes troubleshooting, installations,
