The ADC Mailing for September 2004 shipped on August 31, 2004. Please allow 3-10 days for delivery.

[2] ADC Compatibility Labs Add New Hardware
The ADC Compatibility Labs in Cupertino, California maintain more than 150 configurations of Apple hardware. The following newly released products are now available for developer compatibility testing:

  • 20-inch Cinema Display (20-inch viewable), 1680 x 1050 optimal resolution, 16.7 million colors, DVI Display Connector, 2 port USB 2.0 Hub, 2 FireWire 400 ports, VESA mount compatible.

  • 23-inch Cinema HD Display (23-inch viewable), 1920 x 1200 optimal resolution, 16.7 million colors, DVI Display Connector, 2 port USB 2.0 Hub, 2 FireWire 400 ports, VESA mount compatible.

  • Airport Express Base Station

Use of the ADC Compatibility Labs is a no-charge benefit of ADC Select and Premier membership. ADC Premier members may use the labs for 3 days each month, and ADC Select members may use it 2 days each month.

[3] Apple Unveils the New iMac G5
This week Apple introduced the new iMac G5, featuring a high-performance G5 processor and a new design that integrates the entire computer into a flat-panel display. The new line offers 17- or 20-inch active matrix widescreen LCDs and G5 processors running at 1.6 or 1.8 GHz.

[6] System Administration Tool News: CrushFTP 3.5.1, FmPro Migrator 2.19, QuickLite 1.5
CrushFTP 3.5.1 from Ben Spink is a professional FTP server with virtual servers, ratios, quotas, bandwidth limiters, remote administration, and more. This version adds a plug-in architecture so users can implement LDAP authentication and fixes bugs in email events and multiline messages.

FmPro Migrator 2.19 Enterprise Edition from .com Solutions allows users to migrate FileMaker databases to popular databases such as MySQL, Oracle, Access, SQL Server, DB2 and PostgreSQL. This new version enables migrations to FrontBase, and it allows Perl CGI scripts to be generated within FrontBase database tables.

QuickLite 1.5 from Tito Ciuro is a Cocoa wrapper for SQLite, the embeddable SQL database engine. It includes SQLite and provides users with an SQL database without running a separate RDBMS process. New features include an SQLite update, data integrity checks, better data caching, a new quick edit function, and more.

BBEdit 8.0 from Bare Bones Software is an award-winning HTML and text editor. This major upgrade introduces more than 100 new features and improvements, including a new Documents Drawer and Navigation Bar interface, new Text Factories for automating text processing, numerous enhancements to its HTML markup tools, improved Unicode support, and integrated support for Perforce.

"A.I. for Game Developers" introduces both novice and experienced game programmers to a wide range of Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) techniques, such as finite state machines, fuzzy logic, and neural networks. Written in easy-to-understand text and supported with code samples (in C/C++), the book instructs readers in basic game behaviors, from chasing and evading, to pattern movement and flocking, and to anticipating player moves.
