[1] Apple Dashboard Widget Contest II Entries Due January 5
The Apple Developer Connection is pleased to announce a second Apple
Dashboard Widget Contest. The deadline for submissions is January 5,
2005 and all ADC members whose memberships include access to
pre-release versions of Mac OS X v10.4 Tiger may enter. Widget
entries will be judged on technical excellence, innovation, and
ease-of-use. The developer who creates the winning Widget receives
an Apple 40GB iPod.

[2] System Administration Tool News: SyBrowser 6.5
SyBrowser 6.5 from MacSOS is a table browser, SQL generator, and ER
diagramming tool for OpenBase, FrontBase, MS SQL, Sybase,
PostgreSQL, Oracle, and MySQL databases. This release adds OpenBase
support, a Cartesian graphing panel, a Spotlight-like search field
that truncates rows displayed on the SQL panel, and more.

[3] New ADC Article: Using Oracle JDeveloper 10g on Mac OS X
Oracle JDeveloper 10g is an IDE for building applications and Web
services using the latest industry standards for Java, XML, and
SQL. This article demonstrates effective ways to build front-end
applications for Oracle databases using Oracle JDeveloper 10g.
[4] "Java for Mac OS X" Released by Galileo Computing
This German-only book, "Java for Mac OS X," discusses what
developers need to know about Java programming for Mac OS X. Learn
how to use the command line tools, how to set up Xcode and Eclipse,
and how to optimize GUIs for Mac OS X. The book also covers Applets,
servlets, databases, portable programming, Cocoa Java, Ant, J2EE,
and J2ME. A CD-ROM is included.
[5] Java Tool News: Transactions 2.0
Transactions 2.0 from Atomikos is a premium transaction processing
product for Java professionals whose data quality is mission-
critical. This product is compatible with all major J2EE application
servers, and supports full crash/restart recovery. This new release
features built-in support for virtually every J2EE platform
(including JBoss and Tomcat), redesigned recovery, improved ease of
use, improved demos, and better documentation.

Apple Developer Connection has delivered a new article in the Tiger
Developer Overview Series called "Developing Dashboard Widgets."
Widgets are quick to develop and easy to deploy, and they can
leverage all of Tiger's advanced technologies. This article shows
you how Dashboard Widgets work, and provides an introduction to how
to develop and deliver modular functionality in bite-sized pieces.

[8] Macintosh Products Guide: December 6 Edition of New Arrivals
New Arrivals is a biweekly newsletter in the Macintosh Products
Guide that highlights the newest and hottest products for Mac OS X.
The December 6 edition highlights Magnolia 3.0, a open source J2EE
deployable content-management-system (CMS) from obinary ag, and
Synchronize! X Plus 2.0, a file synchronization and backup utility
from Qdea, and more.
[9] Mac OS X Tool News: AFDragHandler 1.1, Tcl/Tk Aqua 8.4.9.0,
AFDragHandler 1.1 from Basasoft is a REALBasic plug-in that enables
the creation of applications with extended Mac OS X drag-and-drop
support. It allows the implementation of translucent drag, drag
tracking, and Finder drops. This release implements the pinning of
drags, deferred file content creation, and drag origin
determination.
Tcl/Tk Aqua 8.4.9.0 is the latest binary distribution of the
Mac OS X native port of the Tcl scripting language. It includes the
Tk toolkit and fifty popular extensions, such as incrTcl, TclX,
Expect, Tcllib, and XOTcl.
