NeuroLens: Image of a Brain Scan

The NeuroLens application uses Mac OS X on a Macintosh to display three-dimensional images used to identify regions of brain activation. This image shows a volumetric map of brain activation interpolated onto a 3D model of the brain's surface, showing the topography of the brain's response to visual motion on the cortex—the surface of the brain where the neuronal cell bodies and synapses are found.

NeuroLens is targeted specifically at neurologists, biologists, and neuropsychologists doing basic research on brain function. It is part of a project that is funded by the Office of National Drug Control Policy, intended to improve understanding of the genetic bases of addiction and depression.
