Sometimes you look at the market and decide that you could build something that is faster, simpler, and cheaper than what is already out there. That is what motivated Will Thimbleby to create Lineform, his vector drawing illustration application. At first he just needed a drawing tool for himself and he had more time than money, so he set to work with Xcode and Cocoa.

Thimbleby says that when he thought he was almost done programming Lineform, he realized he was just in time to enter the 2006 Apple Design Awards. So he checked the ADC website to find out what exactly Apple was looking for that year. As a result, he decided to add AppleScript support and take advantage of Core Image and other key Mac OS X technologies. As a result of all this work, Thimbleby won the 2006 Apple Design Award for Best Student Product.
