WWDC Special Events Schedule Now Available!
We invite all WWDC attendees to take note of the WWDC 2003 Special Events schedule. Highlights this year include the testing of Bluetooth devices at the traditional FireWire and USB Plug and Unplug Fest, the ever-popular Campus Bash, a new QuickTime Design Awards category, and a special Meet the Evangelists event.

[1] New Apple Training Course June 20-22 in San Francisco
Apple Training is proud to announce two special pre-WWDC training courses, conveniently delivered in the Argent Hotel in San Francisco the weekend prior to WWDC! Attendees can use their special WWDC discount for this or any other leader-led course. Attendees who registered before May 23 receive a 25% discount; all other attendees receive a 10% discount.

WWDC 2002 Sessions are now available FREE to all ADC members via QuickTime stream online. Log in to the ADC Member Site and choose "View ADC TV". Now is a great time to review some of the materials from last year's conference to prepare for 2003.

[5] New Release: Apple Slot Combo Drive 1.0
This update installs new firmware on PowerBook and Xserve Combo drives. The update prevents Combo drives from intermittently failing to eject discs. It's recommended that you install this update to ensure that your Combo drive avoids this problem.

[6] Web Development Tool News: Opera 6.02, skEdit 3.2.2
Opera 6.02 from Opera Software is a standards compliant web browser for Mac OS X. Opera 6.02 is available in English, French, Japanese, and German. Version 6.02 is optimized for extra speed, now works in kiosk mode, and includes various bug fixes.

skEdit 3.2.2 by Sean Kelly is a low-cost HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, ASP, and ColdFusion editor. Version 3.2.2 includes code-hinting for PHP/Perl/Python/JavaScript, improved encoding support, improved syntax highlighting, improved interface, and bug fixes.

[8] New O'Reilly Books: Cocoa in a Nutshell, C++ in a Nutshell
Cocoa in a Nutshell by Michael Beam and James Duncan Davidson begins with a complete overview of Cocoa's object classes. A complement to Apple's documentation, it is the only reference to the classes, functions, types, constants, protocols, and methods that make up Cocoa's Foundation and Application Kit frameworks, based on Mac OS X 10.2.

C++ in a Nutshell by Ray Lischner is a comprehensive quick reference for C++ programmers. The book's language reference is organized first by topic, followed by an alphabetical reference to the language's keywords, complete with syntax summaries and pointers to the topic references.
[9] New Book: Mac OS X Advanced Development Techniques
Mac OS X Advanced Development Techniques by Joe Zobkiw provides readers with a collection of useful programming projects and techniques. Each project chapter contains complete source code and detailed explanations. Examples include document-based applications, Cocoa and Carbon plug-ins, frameworks, system services, preference panes, status items, threads, PHP, XML-RPC, SOAP and more.

[10] Useful Utilities: 24U SimpleHelp Plug-In 1.0.1, Default Folder X 1.7.1, Maintain1 4.4
24U SimpleHelp Plug-In 1.0.1 from 24U Software is a FileMaker plug-in that enables developers to define help tags (tool tips) for layout objects and controls. In version 1.0.1 the behavior of FileMaker Pro's Layout mode has been improved.

Default Folder X 1.7.1 from St. Clair Software is a system enhancement utility for Open and Save dialogs in Mac OS X. Version 1.7.1 delivers a significant performance boost, allows the use of hotkeys to access Favorites in the Finder without modifier keys, and corrects problems in both Default Folder X and its installer.

Maintain1 4.4 from Mark Gregg is a graphical user interface to run system monitoring and clean up tasks, real time logs and data flow and remote maintaince using ssh. Version 4.4 includes rewritten log scripts and a window to show IP addresses.

[11] New Release: iTunes 4.0.1
iTunes lets you create your own personal digital music library, allowing you to manage and play your music collection with drag-and-drop simplicity. iTunes 4 includes the ability to share music streams among Macs on a local network for personal use, play and encode AAC files, and view album art. Version 4.0.1 is required to share music with other Macs also running 4.0.1.

[12] Multimedia Tool News: Business Card Composer, Disc Burner 1.0, ScreenShot Plus 1.0.5
Business Card Composer from BeLight Software creates and prints personalized business cards. Features include image masks, opacity and color graded fill options, shadow effects for text, an automatic background generator and full integration with Address Book.

Disc Burner 1.0 from Centromedia is comprehensive, all-in-one DVD and CD burner software that enables you to create, organize, share and store all of your digital content on CDs or DVDs. Version 1.0 is available for free.

ScreenShot Plus 1.0.5 from piDog Software allows you to scale a capture and choose a graphical format. Version 1.0.5 uses Quartz rendering to scale captures and allows users to copy the capture to the clipboard for pasting into other applications.
