[2] Apple
to Develop Technology Standards for Education
The Software & Information Industry Association (SIIA) has announced
the formal participation of Apple in the development of an open-standard
wire protocol for the "Schools Interoperability Framework" (SIF).
The SIF is a new technical blueprint for the seamless integration
of multivendor software applications in K-12 schools and districts.
Under the management of the SIIA, the SIF will release a working
guideline for application interoperability that will be finalized
after sufficient public review.

Program For AppleShare IP 6.3
Apple has posted an AppleShare IP 6.3 updater for customers who
wish to upgrade their ASIP 6.2 applications. Customers who purchase
AppleShare IP 6.2 (part numbers M7433LL/A, M7431LL/A, or M7434LL/A)
or a Macintosh Server G3 with AppleShare IP 6.2 (M7558LL/A or M7559LL/A)
between September 15 and December 31, 1999, are eligible to receive
a retail upgrade to AppleShare IP 6.3 for US$ 19.95 (CND$ 29.95).

A new version of the WebSTAR Server Suite 4 CD is scheduled to be
mastered for the upcoming 4.1 release. If you'd like to include

of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA).
HACH AG, an advertising gift
shop with over 8000 items, was developed by Pixelpark, Germany's
largest multimedia agency.
The Science &
Engineering Research Network is a new portal site for science,
engineering, health science, and computer information.
DeutschlandMed is a new medical
products web site created by ebox.

5.0, IPNetMonitor 2.4c2, Mizer 1.8 Updater, Novell Netware Client

DeskTape Pro
5.0 from Optima Technology allows you to use the Macintosh
Finder or Speed Doubler to rapidly copy files directly to a mounted
tape volume. This version has been re-engineered for Mac OS 9.
It supports files greater than 2 GB, long Unicode file names,
and performs fully asynchronous reading and writing. Also new
in version 5.0, is support or DDS-4, AIT-2, and FireWire drives
from Indigita.
IPNetMonitor 2.4c2
from Sustainable Softworks provides a set of 12 integrated Internet
tools that allow you to monitor Internet connections. The tools
are designed to help users quickly identify problems and gather
data that can be used to solve them. This version adds support
for decimal input.
Mizer 1.8
Updater from Antimony Software is a utility that scans your
HTML code and cleans it up, making your HTML documents smaller
in size and allowing them to load faster over the Web. This version
displays all supported file types for optimization in the Get
Info window, along with a preview of compression results.
Prosoft Engineering has posted a Mac OS 9 compatibility updater
for Novell
Netware Client 5.1.3.

USB
Adapter Card Support 1.3.5 is a set of software extensions
that provide support for USB adapter cards installed in the PCI
bus or CardBus slots in Macintosh computers. (This software doesn't
need to be installed on Macintosh computers with built-in USB
ports.)
OpenGL
1.1.2 enables your computer to display three-dimensional graphics
when using applications designed to take advantage of OpenGL.
This release features internal texture format support, better
AGP texture management, added support for Velocity Engine, and
performance optimizations.

CPLAT 2.0 from Ksoft is a
low-cost (US$ 50), easy-to-use, C++ framework for developing cross-platform
applications. It ships with RAD (Rapid Application Development)
for CPLAT, so you can enjoy the power of RAD application development,
while taking advantage of the benefits of the C++ language
Ksoft is also shipping CPLAT
RADTools/Resource Editor 2.0, a tool that allows for the visual
layout of your program and resources. The CPLAT RADTools/Resource
editor, like the CPLAT framework, includes full source code and
projects.

Adobe Systems has just posted Adobe
Acrobat Reader 4.0.5 to its web site. This free tool is the
essential interpreter of PDF files, which are used by companies
to distribute documentation and other pieces of information about
their products.
ConceptDraw 1.1 from
Computer Systems Odessa is a powerful, easy-to-use tool for creating
software flowcharts, organization charts, timelines, marketing diagrams,
and more. 67 task-related, upgradable object libraries provide you
with more than 1,600 objects which you may need for creating flowcharts,
office layouts, electronic schemes, or other diagrams. It's cross-platform,
it allows for embedded hyperlinks, and it includes a built-in spreadsheet
with calculation capabilities.
IomegaWare Tools 2.1 from
Iomega provides you with Iomega driver software, utilities for copying
and finding data, password protection, guest access for portability,
a control strip module, and file matching. The software is also
designed to be compatible with much older Macintosh computers.
The Reaction
Bundle includes three "Best of Class" Mac OS utilities -- Default
Folder, AliasMenu and BeHierarchic -- at a special, limited-time
price of US$ 39.95. Default Folder enhances file dialogs for fast
navigation between folders. AliasMenu adds customized menus to the
menu bar. BeHierarchic displays hierarchical submenus for each folder,
folder alias, and server alias found on your Apple menu.
Aladdin Systems has just released the StuffIt
5.5 product line and a free Mac OS 9 compatible update for registered
StuffIt Deluxe 5.0 or 5.1 customers. The 5.5 version of the StuffIt
file compression application has been optimized to provide faster
compression and expansion by 20 percent over the previous version.
It can create Windows self-extracting files (.exe) on your Macintosh
computer, and more.

Client 3.8.6 fixes a crash with the DHX Authentication when
attempting to connect to a Mac OS X server for the second time,
due to an incorrect password or user name.

Adds Comprehensive QuickTime Support to Oracle8i
Oracle announced added support and integration for QuickTime and
other Apple media technologies in Oracle8i, which also includes
support for Apple APIs, QuickTime Streaming Server, and Sherlock
2. The QuickTime Streaming Server is the only open-source, standards-based
Internet streaming solution that does not charge a per-stream tax.

Power Suite
Amapi 3D 5.0
from Template Graphics Software (TGS) is a powerful, versatile
3D modeler that simplifies the creation and editing of complex
geometric shapes through a large selection of advanced tools.
Through its customizable interface and robust import/export modules,
it meets the demands of both professional and beginning designers.
This release adds decimation and dynamic geometry capabilities,
as well as smoothing, filleting, and deformation tools.
Media Cleaner Power
Suite from Terran Interactive helps you produce high quality
streaming media files of any size. It includes accelerated versions
of the Media Cleaner Pro and Sorenson Video codec, Ultra BlueICE,
and the Professional Edition of the QDesign Music Codec. The product
also includes Terran's "How to Produce High-Quality QuickTime"
instructional guide.
