Support for HTTP Streaming

Streaming relies on the successful transmission of TCP and UDP packets to and from the user. Many firewalls, however, block either UDP, or both UDP and TCP packets transmitted over a protocol or port which they don't recognize. Since QuickTime uses RTP and RTSP -- which are relatively new -- many firewalls do not yet recognize them. Because HTTP is so common, every firewall allows it through. QuickTime 4.1 now has the ability to transport streaming packets over HTTP. However, HTTP is not the preferred choice because it was not designed for real-time delivery.
