AppleGlot is a tool for extracting text strings to be translated, and then merging them back into the localized application environment. It supports incremental localization. AppleGlot 3.4 supports Interface Builder 3.0 style XIB and NIB format via ibtool.

Use pcxapp2 to compare files or directory structures. It is a powerful engine which can compare every detail of supported file types. Set your preference for comparison to suppress the details. pcxapp2 is capable of comparing a variety of file formats ranging from Cocoa nib files, Carbon resource files and text files such as .strings, .plist, html or .xml. The command-line version is accessible from pcxapp2.app/Contents/Resources/pcx2.

AppleTrans is a text editor specially designed for translators, featuring online corpora which represents "translation memory" accessible through documents. See the User's Guide, which is available from the Help menu, for information on getting started with it. AppleTrans is not an officially supported Apple tool. Use this software at your own risk.

The recommended text editor for localization, ADViewer has many features convenient for localizers, such as the ability to recognize UTF-8 and UTF-16 encodings, and the ability to open AppleGlot documents.

The newest translations of strings from Mac OS X are available here. These files can be used by AppleGlot as translators to help streamline the localization process. These files can all be viewed with TextEdit in Mac OS X.
