Java 2 Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Release 4 delivers improved reliability and compatibility for Java 2 Platform Standard Edition 5.0 on Mac OS X v10.4.5 and later. With this update J2SE 5.0 becomes the preferred Java version, superseding Java 1.4.2. Please note that separate downloads exist for PowerPC-based and Intel-based Macintosh computers.

Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Release 3 includes version 1.5.0_05 and improves functionality of J2SE 5.0 on Mac OS X v 10.4 Tiger 10.4.2 and later. This release does not replace the existing installation of J2SE 1.4.2.

Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 1.3.1 and 1.4.2 Release 2 improves functionality of J2SE 1.4.2 on Mac OS X v. 10.4 Tiger and updates J2SE 1.3.1 for better interaction with J2SE 1.4.2. Release 2 includes Sun's version 1.4.2_09 and 1.3.1_16.

Java 2 Platform Standard Edition (J2SE) 5.0 Release 1 provides support for J2SE 5.0 on Mac OS X 10.4. This release is based on JDK version 1.5.0_02 and does not replace the existing installation of J2SE 1.4.2.

Java 1.4.2 Update 2 provides improved behavior for applets in Safari and increased stability for desktop Java applications. Java 1.4.2 Update 2 also includes all the improvements from Java 1.4.2 Update 1, including compatibility with Sun's Java 2 Platform Standard Edition, version 1.4.2_05. Please note that this update completely replaces the current Java 1.4 implementation on Panther systems (1.4.1 or 1.4.2), and is not removable once installed.
