Introduction to RAM Expansion Developer Note

Note: This technology developer note describes details of Apple’s support for memory in Macintosh computers. Previously, information of this type was published in Apple's product developer notes (specific to particular Macintosh computers). For implementation details for Macintosh computers introduced before October of 2005, see the product developer note for that computer.

Every Macintosh computer currently shipping allows for increasing memory by installing one or more RAM modules. To ensure proper performance, reliability, and compatibility, such RAM modules must include certain features and must comply with industry standards, as described in this document.

Developers who are designing RAM devices for Macintosh computers will find this document useful.
