Substantial improvements to Plugin2

The Apple Java team has focused on providing a high quality release of Plugin2 with the intent to make it the default and in some cases, the only applet plug-in for all browsers. If there are any outstanding issues in Plugin2 that break your applets, please report them immediately at http://bugreporter.apple.com.

Removing Plugin2 support on OS X v10.5

Due to the lack of advanced cross-process communication features in the OS and the graphics system in J2SE 5.0, it will not be feasible to deliver an acceptable user experience in Plugin2 on OS X v10.5 Leopard. The in-process applet plug-in (Plugin1) will remain the default, and the user interface to activate Plugin2 has been removed from Java Preferences.

Users with Intel-based Macs are encouraged to upgrade to OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard to receive security updates and experience applets in Plugin2.
