Q. What platforms does the source compile and run
on?
OpenPlay compiles and runs on the Mac OS, Mac OS X, linux and Windows 98/ME/2K/XP platforms.
Q. What protocols are supported?
OpenPlay currently has plug-ins for AppleTalk,
OpenTransport, Linux sockets, and WinSock. The plug-in architecture is
designed to make it easy to add support for additional protocols, like
the new Rendevous module.
Q. What is the relationship between NetSprocket and OpenPlay?
NetSprocket was the original Macintosh-only
network gaming toolkit, written in C++. OpenPlay was a cross-platform
networking library which did not include higher-level abstractions like
those in NetSprocket. The current release of OpenPlay combines the
original low level OpenPlay API (the "protocol" api set) with the
NetSprocket high level api (the NSp api set).
