Part II of III) Creating the Referenced Movie
  Introduction
  Creating Alternate Movies
  Embedding the Reference Movie

1. Launch MakeRefMovie.

2. At the prompt where it asks, 'Save this document as:,' select a name and save the document in the directory where the altenates were saved. Make sure the file is saved with the '.mov' extension. This is the reference movie which will call upon the alternates which will be in the <EMBED> tag so name it accordingly.

3. Drag each of the alternates created onto the window of MakeRefMovie. An alternate movie will appear for each file you drag-and-drop. You can also open each file seperately by choosing 'Add movie file' from the 'Movie' menu option.

A. The 'Speed:' Pop-up menu allows you to select the connection speed appropriate for the data rate of the alternate movie.

B. The 'Priority:' Pop-up allows content creators to set the priority for which files load. For example, if there are more than one movies containing the same connection speed, simply set the priority in which file will load first. You can refer to the previous page for appropriate connection rates. If two or more files contain the same connection 'Speed,' you can specify which movie has priority upon playback.

C. The 'Flatten into output' check box is used when you have a movie compessed with a codec supported by older versions of QuickTime for backward compatibility. This checkbox can only be applied to one movie. If QuickTime 3 is not present and the user has an older version of QuickTime, this movie will be played.

4. Save the referenced movie and place it and the alternate movies you created in the same directory. Upload the directory or files to the server. You must have the master movie and referenced movies in the same directory on the server.
