Dashcode is an integrated environment for laying out, coding, and testing Dashboard widgets. It creates and manages all of the files and images needed to make a widget. Its layout tools, composers, and editors simplify the process of creating all of the resources that a widget needs. It also includes handy coding and debugging tools that help you manage and test any code you write for a widget. Once you’re done designing, coding, and testing a widget, Dashcode does all of the packaging necessary to share a widget.
For more information about Dashcode, read Dashcode User Guide.

Editing image files externally
Dashcode tracks changes to image files when they’re opened in an external editor via double click or an “Open in External Editor” button. Changes to files are not tracked when you drag an image file from the Files list to an image editing application. To show changed image files, close and reopen the widget project.
Adding Files to a project
To add a file to a project, drag it to the Files list. Using Finder or Terminal to add files is not supported.
Stroke on a Box part
The Groove stroke style doesn’t work on Box parts.
Importing deployed Dashcode-originated widgets
Importing a widget deployed from Dashcode causes a number of parts to draw incorrectly.
Pasteboard operation between projects
Copying an element between projects doesn’t copy its style information.
Resizing pop-up menu parts
Setting a pop-up menu part’s width to 15 pixels or less causes it to draw incorrectly.
Opening images in Preview
When Preview is your default application for viewing PNG files, clicking the Open in External Editor button more than once opens multiple copies of the image.
Category selection in the Library window
If the categories list in the Library window is minimized into a pop-up menu, the selected category isn’t maintained when you switch between libraries.
Photocast template and .Mac Web Gallery
To set a .Mac Web Gallery as the source of a Photocast widget:
On the .Mac Web Gallery web page, click Subscribe
Paste the subscription URL into a browser window and press return
Once the feed loads, copy and paste the new feed URL into the Photocast source URL in Widget Attributes
