So, what's new in Font Validator d5

• More bug fixes.
• Preview is now available in the open dialog box when using Nav. Services - thanks to FTX. The 'gvar' and 'cvar' tests now have a small bug fix that stops unnecessary error messages.
• Added check in maxp for maxDepth.
• There is a check for the 'head' table when checking the FOND, uen catches badly formatted head tables.
• Also the toggle buttons have been swapped around to be in when on, and out when off - as per standard.
• The new FTX fix for System Folder items has been added.
• Fixed the more than 1 about box issue - now you should only be able to have 1 about box (per app)
• Added Hints testing
• Fix the - can't open items in the Apple Menu .
• Fix in the FOND testing to catch invalid style codes.

So, what's new in Font Validator d4

Mainly bug fixes - lots of bug fixes, d4 has now fixed some bugs in the FOND that get by v1.7fc1. D4 can stop testing the 'glyf' and 'maxp' tables when the required tables are not present - this stops 1 or 2 message per glyph in the font.

The close the first window, closes all others has been fixed.

The drag and drop launching has been added, so now you can select multiple fonts and drop them on FV2.0 which will put them in seperate windows. But you can't do multiple selection inside the Nav. Services yet. And, sorry Peter, the dropping of a folder of fonts on FV2.0 doesn't work yet either.

Navigation Services

If you have Navigation services you should see this window, otherwise you'll get the Standard Dialog.

New UI - its all explained below.

The toggle buttons hide the messages of the type pressed - i.e. press the button and all the error message will be hidden from the table (message area).
NOTE: if you save the report - all messages are saved, including the hidden ones.

What's that web button all about ?

If you click the pop up menu beside the web button, there is a list of url's - the Error Database, fonts.apple.com and www.apple.com. The last two are self explainatory - select one hit the web button and - if you have internet config 2.0 installed - your default browser opens on that page. If you select Error Database the url is to an internal apple server - maidin.euro.apple.com (CorkFontToolsServer on AppleTalk) - where there is a copy of the Public Access Font Validator Error Database servered up on the intranet using FileMaker Pro - no password is required. Once there you can search for an error message and obtain a detailed explaination of cause (trigger) of the error message.
