Menus contain actions that people can perform. Each action has a required label and icon. Menu labels can only have two lines of text, so it must be short. Menu icons are template images, which use the image’s alpha channel (not its color channels) to define the shape.
If possible, provide the menu icons as autoscaling PDFs. Size the icon for the 40mm and 42mm devices; the system then automatically scales the icon for the 38mm and 44mm devices (see Autoscaling PDF Images). Otherwise, provide separate PNGs for each device. Avoid using interlaced PNGs.
Set line thickness to four pixels or greater to ensure legibility. Use line weights that are appropriate for the device size and the complexity of the icon.
