User Profile

I have an iOS App in the store for some years now. I did not update it as it works fine. I recently noticed all my Provisioning Profiles had expired. My iOS development and distribution certificates are still valid. What does this mean? Can i update my existing App and release or not? I'm still a member and have admin privileges. I tried to set the latest Xcode to 'Automatic' setting but it doesn't go through. The certificates, provisioning profiles, key chains and code signing while very important, continues to be quite confusing to me.Thanks
