I was using my iPhone 12 and all of a sudden no apps can be opened and the phone cant restart.
Hi Dev Team,
I don’t see many answers on this topic but this seems to be a real concern for many users.
I went from my IPhone 8+ with 256gb and I had 39gb used, about 7gb was other storage no big deal. I decided to go with an iPhone 12 Pro Max 128gb. I now have 60gb used of which 26gb is other storage!!! I have done 3 clean installs from different iCloud backups and no change. I do not buy an iPhone to see half of my storage being used by other and system storage.
Also I do not explain why I now see some gb with photos and messages as it is normally all stored on iCloud (I have 2.2tb). Same thing I do not subscribe to iCloud or AppleOne to have data store on my iPhone while it should be all on iCloud.
I did not have this on my 8+. I called Apple but they were clueless...simply telling me that it is normal and that it may take a few days for things to get back to normal...it is not true.
is that a bug? My iPhone flash memory corrupted? Will this be taken into consideration?
Anyone else having this issue please post.
Thanks much!

Apologies if this isn't the right venue for this, but I figured the developers on here might have some insight.
I've been looking into a problem which I'm experiencing on my 12 Pro, and others have also reported: when closing apps, occasionally there's a stutter in the animation, like dropped frames. It seems to start occurring after I've opened many apps since my last restart. It's been an issue since launch, on iOS 14.1, 14.2, and now the 14.3 Public Beta 2. I've also tried reinstalling iOS and setting up as a new device, with no change.
Based on when I see it, my theory for the cause is basically: when you close an app, but the memory allocated for suspended apps is already full, the OS needs to clear out some of that memory, and there's a lag/stutter in the UI while it does this.
To test this out, I plugged my phone into my Mac, and pulled up the Console app to watch for error/fault messages in the iOS log. Almost every time I close an app and see this stutter, there are error messages from runningboardd (RunningBoard), such as the following:
error 17:38:41.087985-0700 runningboardd RBSStateCapture remove item called for untracked item <RBProcessMonitorObserver| qos:0 qos:(null) configs:{
}>
Such errors do not occur when an app closes smoothly with no stutter. It's not always the same error, but there's a pretty consistent correlation between seeing the stutter and seeing a runningboardd error.
Some light googling tells me that RunningBoard is a new-ish part of iOS used to track active processes.
Does anyone have more experience with RunningBoard errors, or has a good idea for further troubleshooting steps?
I haven't updated my iPhone 7 plus for a long time and it is still on iOS 11.2.5 (which is completely my fault). So now I have finally decided to update it to iOS 14.2. However, it just simply wouldn't install.
I can download iOS 14.2 on my iPhone and everything seems fine up to the point when I press "Install Now", then "Verifying update" would pop up, and after a while an error message would pop up saying that "Unable to Install Update. An error occurred installing iOS 14.2".
I've tried everything but it still wouldn't install. I tried updating it when my phone had at least 80% battery, charging and connected to my home WiFi. My phone has at least 80 GB free storage, so it shouldn't be a storage problem. I have tried deleting the downloaded iOS 14.2 from storage, then re-download it, but it still wouldn't install and the same error message would pop up. I've tried updating it using iTunes on a laptop, but it still wouldn't install and an error message "The iPhone could not be updated. An unknown error occurred (4000).". My laptop is a PC with Windows 10 and I've downloaded iTunes directly from Apple to my laptop and it is updated to the newest version, so I don't think it is a problem to do with my laptop or iTunes. I've tried downloading iOS 14.2 with WiFi, then installing it with data, but it still wouldn't work. I've tried restarting my phone and laptop, then repeating the processes, but it still wouldn't update. I've tried everything so many times but the same error messages would pop up. I've spent a long time Googling and opened almost every single tap on the internet to try all the suggested solutions I could find, but my phone still wouldn't update.
I don't know what to do know, nothing seems to work... Can someone please, PLEASE, help me :(

What is the recommended FFMPEG settings for encoding a video which can play on all apple devices, old and new.
I would like the format to be in mp4 so that the video file is also compatible to android, windows (phone / pc) and linux.
These are the current settings I have used and they do not work on iOS, These settings work great on Windows and Android but not on iOS.
ffmpeg -i input_video.mp4 -c:v libx264 -crf 23 -profile:v baseline -level 3.0 -pix_fmt yuv420p -c:a aac -ac 2 -b:a 128k -movflags faststart -o output_video.mp4
I'm new to developing for iPhone/iOS.
so thanks in advance.

I recently updated to iOS 14.2 and ever since my phones iMessage has been glitching. I have the iPhone XR so it’s not that it’s a particularly old phone... however I no longer get notifications when I get iMessages. My phone also opens messages before I’ve seen them...
to explain, it’ll send a read receipt before I’ve actually seen the message, and thus, “reads the message” so I get no notification. It’s hard to explain but my contacts are being told I’ve read their message- when I haven’t. I’ve tried restarting my phone and it keeps happening. Anyone got any tips? Or is this an IOS glitch?
thanks!

I recently bought the new iphone 12, the new macbook M1 Air and the Airpod pros.
All of them are on the newest firmware and updated to Big Sur/IOS 14. All of them are connected under the same apple ID.
But the automatic switching works in absolutely no case. Not with youtube, not with spotify or anything else. I always have to go to bluetooth and connect manually.
Its a bit disappointing since these are all of the newest devices and i expected it to work. Does anyone have an idea how to solve it? Logging off and on the Apple ID and rebooting does nothing..

Have an iPhone project where we use XCode to develop and use xcodebuild to create our production releases. We have a complete build system and scripts that we have been using for years, across many versions of MacOS and XCode, and without problems.
Problem: I just moved to a new Mac Mini M1 and the xcodebuild process now generates an error and fails. There have been no other changes in the code or the project between building on my old Mac Mini and the new M1 Mini.
WAS USING: MacOS 10.15.7, on Mac mini (Late 2012)
XCode version: 12.2
NOW USING MacOS 11.0.1, on Mac mini (M1, 2020)
XCode version: 12.2
The "xcodebuild archive" produces the following error:
error: Provisioning profile "XXXXXXX Development Profile" doesn't include the currently selected device "Chris’s Mac mini" (identifier XXXXXX-XXXXXXXXXX). (in target 'XXXXXXX' from project 'XXXXXX')
Now, "Chris’s Mac mini" is the name of my new development machine. I'm building a iPhone app, and our provisioning profile DOES contain a number of device IDs for various iPhones we test on.
Why would it care that my Mini is not in that list?
When I try, I can't even add a Mac ID to the provisioning profile
Our normal xcodebuild command line is rather complex, but even if I run it with:
xcodebuild -scheme <MyTargetName>
and nothing else, I still get the error. noted above
Any suggestion appreciated.
Chris

Hi.
This is may sound quite strange, but I hope someone else has experienced this and can help me.
I recently had a request to add 2 iPhone 12 Pro Max UDID's to my developer account.
1 device from the UK adds fine with no issues.
The second device from UAE, adds successfully however the Device shows as iPhone but the Device Type is appearing as iPad Pro 12.9-inch Wi-Fi (4th generation).
Due to this we are unable to install any of our test apps on this device.
We are 100% sure it is an iPhone 12 Pro Max.
Any direction or support would be appreciated.
Thanks,
R
Hi everyone
I am having a problem with Siri Spotlight/app suggestions partially not working. Started on iPhone 11 Pro Max on iOS 14 beta and now it is still present in new iPhone 12 pro max on official iOS 14 release.
they will work for some time time and then I swipe down and nothing shows just a search bar. If I type in it all magically appears again and will work fine for an unspecified time. Then to crash again.
did everything, all kinds of resets and even restore via cable and mac, it will just not work.
Apple support didn’t help much.
it seems to work fine if I have nothing installed beside Apple apps. When I install at least one or two third party apps it starts to act funny with the spotlight page.
so Apple has the solution for this yet or even aware of the issue?

My handoff/airplay devices are iPone 12 Pro (IOS 14.2.1), iPhone X(iOS 14.2), M1 MacBook Pro 2020 (Big Sur 11.0.1) and apple watch series 5.
iPhone 12 Pro and iPhone X can detect handoff from each other; But they both can't detect handoff from MacBook Pro(Big Sur 11.0.1).
I've tried all troubleshooting in all devices.

The original Apple ID according to the representative is still “active” however she did hang up in my face when she used my Government name and that name wasn’t initially registered to the original Apple ID.. anyways the restrictions that correspond with a MDM from an apple business management account on my iPhone also the analytics and improvements keep showing activity of another device having access or “remote” capabilities. I copied this portion of some crash reports from the analytics data

Also here’s a log of some activity from a MDMiosagent. If anyone had any answers as to how to remove my account from a MDM (unenroll). My device was added to a management account without my consent or authorization.. and this “crime” needs to be reported immediately.
I’ll post that on another question

I feel like this should be a pretty common problem with a pretty simple answer, but has anyone encountered a problem where your app's widget is not available on a device where you've been testing a dev version of your app as well as installing the App Store version? So what I mean is, on my iPhone, I'm often testing daily builds of our app, and I'm also installing our app from the App Store. At some point, this combo results in our app's widget being unavailable in the list of widgets on my iPhone. I've tried uninstalling dev builds, App Store releases, and so on, but the widget never comes back on a new install. Looking for a magic combo here, I guess, to clear some mystery widget registry or something.

G'day.
At my office the doors are locked with an NFC reader. We carry around a little NFC tag on our key chains which will read out a number and this then will open the door if the number matches a number in the database.
I am tired of carrying around the tag, people keep loosing it, forgetting it and it would be nice to open the door using a Phone - which we tend to always have on us.
So I used a credit card which is NFC enabled to readout the NFC information, added this number to the database and can now open doors using my credit card. This is pretty cool. If I forget my keys (most likely they will be on the desk but silly me left the desk without them), I may have my wallet with me.
Then I tried Wallet.app on my iPhone and select the same credit card. However the door doesn't open. When looking in the door software I noticed that the tags will always transmit the same number. So does my credit card. However Wallet.app will read out 4 readings (or maybe just one very long one) and they are always different. So I can not make them match with the door database.
Any ideas how to make this work? Can I give somehow wallet.app an NFC number which I can then add to my door database? Or how come the credit card and the very same one in wallet.app don't match?
Thanks for your help! Would be neat if I could make this work out. This will make a lot of people happy at my office!
Cheers!
