I have:MacBook Pro (Retina, 15-inch, Mid 2015)I tried to update to macos 10.14.1 but software update says there aren't any updates. I then downloaded the update from:https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1981?locale=en_USand tried to install it, but the Disk has a yellow triangle with exclamation point and says:macos 10.14.1 update can't be installed on this disk. This volume does not meet the requirements for this update.I have filevault turned on. Was this update not tested on a system with disk encryption turned on?

I've not seen this one covered elsewhere, and whilst I've already tried the Feedback Assistant to get it to Apple, I'm not sure if it's being picked up or looked at there...The problem I've encountered is that whenever I use Disk Utility to create an APFS encrypted volume within a container, it works, but only until I reboot. When I reboot, after looking in I'm prompted for the password for the volume. I'm 100% certain of the passphase I used, but, after entering it the UI "shakes" to indicate the passphrase was wrong. If I try again, either with the same passphrase, or, trying something like my login password, the UI will go away, but, the volume does not mount. In Disk Utility I get the error:Could not mount “Data”. (com.apple.DiskManagement.disenter error 49218.)And that's that. I've now lost some data permanently, which is a bit frustrating. I excluded that volume from TimeMachine backups to ensure that there weren't unencrypted copies of the data floating about anywhere (even though my TM volume is encrypted (HFS+, not APFS)).Sadly, this is 100% repeatable, and I've had it happen a few times. Thankfully, not much data has been lost forever, but, it makes it tough to trust APFS Encryption.Steps that I took to do this:1) Had a new HD inserted in my MacPro (2019)2) Drive was formatted with GUID partition map3) Initial APFS container created (no encryption)4) Once Container existed, as well as initial whole-disk-sized APFS volume, I clicked on the Container and "+" to create a new container.5) Chose APFS Encryption as the FS, generated a passphrase with 1Password, and am certain it's accurate. 6) Volume mounted just fine, was able to read/write data to it no problem7) RebootedAnd that's where it went off the rails. Has anyone had better and more reliable experience with APFS Encrypted volumes?

I am currently attempting to sync my texts & photos throughout all my devices (Mac, iPad & iPhone), so that when I delete something on one device it deletes it (or in contrast receives a new message/I take a new photo) on all my other devices. However, when I'm on my phone and I'm on the iCloud settings and I attempt to turn on messages, it says "Messages in iCloud not available because iCloud & iMessage accounts are different" When I go to "Name, Phone Numbers, Email" my AppleID is "name@gmail.com" and my iCloud is "name@iCloud.com" I no longer use the iCloud domain and want to change it anyways, but am unsure how because it won't let me. What do I do?

I need to run engineering applications (CFD Analyses) and thus I need to be able to have access to LINUX. I hear that Boot Camp will not be an option on Apple silicon. So be specific, how am I going to get my work done with a machine that has Apple Silicon in it.

Read on AppleInsider that the fee would be converted after the transition into an Apple Store voucher that can be used to buy a new Mac. Sounds good, but I don't see this mentioned in the program, the agreement or anywhere else. Is the fee going to be converted after the transition? If yes, full or partially?

I dont use Sidecar frequently, but just noticed after my upgrade that my iPad Pro 11 is no longer visible as a target for my Macbook Pro (late 2016). Both are running the Beta 1 (Big Sur on Macbook, and iPadOS 14). Anybody else experiencing this?

I have created a package installer for MacOS with "productbuild" command line and adding the postinstall script in the package through command. And even I have changed the file mode to executable "chmod a+x" before using it in "productbuild" command. Here is what I am using for command line and in postinstall script and I have name the file to "postinstall.sh". command line:- productbuild --component "$appDir" "/Applications" --scripts "../Scripts" --sign "Developer ID Installer: $DEVNAME" "$appName.pkg" postinstall.sh:- #!/usr/bin/env bash open -n -a /Applications/appname.app exit 0 when package is created and I try to install the application on my mac, Installation runs smooth and app is install under application folder but postinstall script does not for some reason. please advise if I have missed out something or anything on running the postinstall script would be appreciated. Thanks in advance Note : This app is generated by Unity engine.

Ok, so installed Big Sur a day or so ago and haven't had any issues, awesome. I downloaded Xcode 12 beta and installed it without issues. I needed to restart, got to the login screen, entered my credentials and now I'm stuck on the login progress screen, which seems to be stuck at 100% and not going any where I've tried hard power cycling the laptop without any success ... Any suggestions? (ie "safe mode")

Hi Everyone, It would be amazing if anyone has a solution for my problem (seems, based on some Googling, I'm not the only person with this issue). I have the 2019 MacBook Pro with TouchBar (T2 Security chip) and experiencing the "Fingerprint Limit Reached" issue when trying to add a new fingerprint, although there are no fingerprints registered on the Mac. I have tried the Command "xartutil --erase-all" Which was a nightmare with a T2 Security chip as it deleted my data. I reset my MacBook pro, and tried many other suggested solutions like resetting the SMC, and still no luck... Kind regards

I have a Late 2015 iMac with 32 Gig of RAM. I am attempting to download macOS Big Sur Beta 5 and the Software Update stops at preparing macOS Big Sur Beta 5 (about 2/3). It has been stuck for about two hours. Is there anything that can be done to complete the download and install the beta?

I've got a WD My Passport 1TB SSD external drive. I also have 2 MacBook Airs, one mid 2013 and one less than a month old. I used the hard drive to transition from the old one to the new one. Both worked great.  I had the old one enrolled in the beta program so of course after moving to the new one it was too. They both upgraded to Big Sur one night. Long story short one of the programs I use regularly wasn't ready for Big Sur so I attempted to go back to Catalina. I plugged in the hard drive and it just sat there steadily flashing the light. No access in Finder.  I opened DiskUtility and there it was, greyed out with no access.. No mount, no first aid, nothing. So I opened Safari and did some looking. Meanwhile, I cleared out the old MacBook and loaded a new version of Catalina. Turns out, when I force quit fsckhfs, the drive is accessible and I can access it. While it passes all tests on WD's utility app, when I try to run first aid it fails after about 4 hours. Though I can still view and move files in finder, after the force quit of fsckhfs. If I try to renew from backup, I'm stuck because I can't force quit fsckhfs from that stage of boot yet I can't restore from backup after a full boot up. Should I attempt to erase the whole drive, reformat and start making new backups or is there a way to address the problem between the drive and fsckhfs? Interesting note, the drive worked perfectly with Catalina. After loading Big Sur it didn't work. After taking the older MacBook back from Big Sur to a fresh copy of Catalina, it didn't work anymore (unless I force quit fsck_hfs). FYI, the ext HD was connected to the old MacBook when it upgraded to Big Sur. The new one was never upgraded but the HD doesn't work when connected to the new one. Thanks to all for the assistance.

Hi, I've been working quite a lot on a pretty big SwiftUI App, which will actively support multiple windows. I am looking to use the commands feature new in macOS 11, like this for example: WindowGroup {     WindowView() }        .commands {  	 CommandMenu("Menu") {         Button(action: { print("test")         }) {             Text("Action")         }     } } Now the action obviously needs to be propagated. I would work with environment objects on every window here which basically hold a CommandState, specifying if a command is currently available and which action to take on it. Every window would have one of those and when you switch windows the global state would update to be the one of the current window. Now the question is: How do I do that? As far as I can see, there is no way in SwiftUI to know which window is in the foreground, there is a scenePhase environment variable, but it is active for both windows when I create two. There is also an isFocused environment variable, but in my testing it never changes and I also do not really get what it would do since, in my opinion, the documentation is not very clear on that. Any options I haven't considered/other ideas? Thanks in advance, Jann

I launched instruments using Xcode-beta 12.2 . I used the below command line  xcrun /Users/jobjames/Downloads/Xcode-beta.app/Contents/Developer/usr/bin/xctrace record -template "Leaks" --output Instruments.trace --launch < hello_world/Hello/Build/Products/Debug/Hello.app/Contents/MacOS/Hello  Now I tried exporting the generated Instruments.trace to xml file /Users/jobjames/Downloads/Xcode-beta.app/Contents/Developer/usr/bin/xctrace export --input /Users/jobjames/Desktop/Instruments.trace --xpath '/trace-toc/run[@number="1"]/data/table[@schema="my-table-schema"]' Although my instruments had leaks info, this generated xml does not have any information. Please tell me the format for xpath, to have the leaks information and backtrace in the generated xml.

I have the legacy app that maintain its own thread pool to do cpu intensive work. It uses NSProcessInfo.processInfo.activeProcessorCount to get number cores and max thread pool size. It worked quite fine for Intel-based Macs but for Apple Silicon Macs it does not make much sense to create more threads than there are high-performance cores. How do I get the number of high-performance cores on Apple Silicon Macs?
