Setting the Recording Options for a Trace Document

Set recording options to improve data collection in a trace document. Choose a delay before recording, the length of time to record, the amount of data to save, or whether to record data in deferred mode.

Choose File > Record Options to open the recording options dialog.

You can customize the following:

  • Start Delay: The amount of time between clicking the Record button and when the instruments begin to record data. In this field enter the delay you want, and choose the time increment from nanoseconds, microseconds, milliseconds, or seconds.

  • Time Limit: The maximum amount of time that the instruments will record data. In this field enter the delay you want, and choose the time increment from nanoseconds, microseconds, milliseconds, or seconds.

  • Window Limit: The amount of data that is saved. When recording for longer than the window limit only the last “x” amount of data is saved. In this field enter the amount of data you want to save, and choose time increment from nanoseconds, microseconds, milliseconds, or seconds.

  • Deferred Mode: Select to defer data analysis until after data collection is complete.

The screenshot shows Instruments with a start delay of 2 seconds, a recording time of 140 seconds, and a window limit of 30 seconds.
