Searching Developer Documentation

Locate information specific to your immediate needs by searching developer documentation.


To search within developer documentation, enter your search term in the search field at the top of the documentation viewer window. As you type, the results are automatically populated in a pane below. By pressing Return, you automatically navigate to the top hit.

To view all results for search term, select Show All Results at the bottom of the results pane. Results are automatically divided into four categories: API Reference, SDK Guides, Tools Guides, and Sample Code. Within each category, results are sorted by relevance.

When searching in the documentation viewer, you can choose which SDKs are searched. To define the SDKs to be searched, click the magnifying glass icon in the documentation viewer and select the desired doc sets to be searched. The options are:

  • Automatic. Automatically determines which doc set to search based on the SDKs your open projects are using. This option is selected by default.

  • All SDKs. Searches all installed doc sets.

  • iOS. Searches iOS doc sets only.

  • OS X. Searches OS X doc sets only.
