# isGyroActive

A Boolean value that determines whether gyroscope updates are currently happening.

```
var isGyroActive: Bool { get }
```

## Discussion

This property indicates whether [`startGyroUpdates(to:withHandler:)`](/documentation/CoreMotion/CMMotionManager/startGyroUpdates(to:withHandler:)) or [`startGyroUpdates()`](/documentation/CoreMotion/CMMotionManager/startGyroUpdates()) has been called since the last time [`stopGyroUpdates()`](/documentation/CoreMotion/CMMotionManager/stopGyroUpdates()) was called. (If the start methods hadn’t been called, the app could be getting updates from the gyroscope after calling, for example, [`startDeviceMotionUpdates()`](/documentation/CoreMotion/CMMotionManager/startDeviceMotionUpdates()), but this property would return <doc://com.apple.documentation/documentation/Swift/false>.)
