# expirationDate

The date after which the searchable item should no longer exist.

```
var expirationDate: Date! { get set }
```

## Discussion

If you don’t set the [`expirationDate`](/documentation/CoreSpotlight/CSSearchableItem/expirationDate) property appropriately, the system automatically expires the item after a period of time.
