Request Assistance with Stuck Notarization Queue

Hello,

We are experiencing an issue with the notarization queue and would appreciate your assistance.

A few days ago, we helped another team submit their app for notarization. However, that submission has been stuck in the “In Progress” state for about three days now. Unfortunately, this also seems to have caused our own team’s notarization requests to get stuck as well.

We ran the following command to review the submission history:

xcrun notarytool history --apple-id "xxx" --team-id "xxx" --password "xxx" Successfully received submission history.

Partial results:

id: 0bafa66f-4f47-4327-811f-a05481be5d0b status: In Progress

id: 2d00b75a-a17a-44fc-afa1-71e0e39ec2cd status: In Progress

It appears that one of these belongs to another team’s app we helped submit, and the other is our own submission. Both have remained In Progress for several days, and we are now unable to proceed with any new notarization requests.

Could you please help us clear or reset the stuck notarization queue so we can continue our submissions?

Thank you very much for your help!

Hello Quinn,

I wanted to provide an update and also follow up with a few questions.

The originally stuck notarization submission (for the client we helped submit) was eventually rejected after about 5-6 days. After that, we were able to successfully notarize our own apps. Your previous explanations and guidance have been very helpful in alleviating some of our anxiety — thank you for that!

We are still curious about the process, though. Could you help us understand why the initial submission was stuck for so long? Does the system have an upper limit on how long a submission can be held for in-depth analysis? If so, knowing that would give us some reassurance for future submissions.

Thank you again for your time and assistance!

I’d like to clarify what you mean by “belongs” in this case:

  • Are you saying that you accidentally submitted their software to the notary service using your account?
  • Or are you saying that the notary service is mixing up submissions, showing you submissions that were made by another team?

The former is quite feasible, obviously. The latter seems… well… improbably.

Sorry, I don’t know why I can’t reply to your post, so I have to create a new one to continue the discussion — this issue is quite urgent for us.

Yes, our situation is the former: we submitted another team's software to the notary service using our own Apple Developer account. Their team's own notarization attempt(using their own account) was later rejected after 2-3 days, but the submission that we made for them under our account has now been stuck in the "In Progress" state for more than 4 days. Since then, all our subsequent notarization requests have also remained stuck and cannot proceed. It seems the stuck submission might be blocking the queue for our account.

Could you please help us clear or reset the notarization queue so that we can continue submitting our own apps? It's very important for us!

Thank you very much!

I don’t know why I can’t reply to your post

But this is a reply to my post. I’m confused.

Unless you were trying to reply as a comment. If so, yeah, don’t do that, for various reasons. See Quinn’s Top Ten DevForums Tips for more about this and other general info on how to use the forums effectively.

Yes, our situation is the former

OK. Then I suspect that was “held for in-depth analysis” [1], which means that all following requests have to wait until that’s resolved.

My experience is that this usually clears in a few days. What’s the timestamp on the oldest request that’s stuck in In Progress?

[1] Here’s my standard spiel about that:

You can expect that most uploads will be notarised quickly. Occasionally, some uploads are held for in-depth analysis and may take longer to complete. As you notarise your apps, the system will learn how to recognise them, and you should see fewer delays.

Hello Quinn,

Thank you for your explanation regarding how to properly reply on DevForums — I just realized how the Reply vs Comment mechanism works here!

Regarding your question, the oldest submission that is currently stuck in "In Progress" was submitted on 2025-11-07T03:41:51.182Z (id: 2d00b75a-a17a-44fc-afa1-71e0e39ec2cd, name: BFone.zip). This submission was for notarizing another team's app. After that, we submitted four additional notarization requests for our own apps, and all of them have also remained in "In Progress" since then.

We understand that some submissions may be held for in-depth analysis, but this has now been more than 5 days and is blocking our queue. We urgently need to notarize our own apps in order to deliver them to our customers. We would greatly appreciate any assistance you can provide to clear or reset the queue so that we can continue submitting our apps.

Thank you again for your help!

Yay!

Could you help us understand ?

No, sorry. I’m not allowed to publicly discuss Apple’s internally processes, and that’s particularly true for security processes like notarisation.

In Notarisation Resources you’ll find a link to a Q&A with the Mac notary service team news post, which has some advice directly from the notary team.
