Submitting Bugs and Feedback

Developer feedback goes a long way towards making our products even better. With Apple Bug Reporter, you can submit bug reports and request enhancements to APIs and developer tools.

About Apple Bug Reporter

Apple Bug Reporter is a web-based tool that developers can use to report issues with Apple software and services, request enhancements to APIs and tools, and track the status of their feedback. To access Apple Bug Reporter, sign in with the Apple ID associated with your developer account.

Submitting a Report

Please limit each submission to one issue. Make sure to include steps to reproduce the issue and attach any necessary information, such as screenshots and logs. This allows us to effectively distribute information to specific teams within Apple. Your submission will be reviewed by Apple engineers and we’ll contact you if we need more information.

  • Provide clear and concise steps to reproduce the issue.
  • Collect and attach any relevant logs.
  • Describe a reproducible test case, if applicable.
  • Provide screenshots and or a video showing the issue.

When submitting bugs for Safari or Safari Technology Preview, at least one of the following is required:

  • Sysdiagnose diagnostic report
  • Screenshot
  • Screen recording
  • WebArchive of the page on which the issue reproduces
  • Reduced test case

You can check the status of your bug reports in Apple Bug Reporter. If no resolution has been provided, you may update your report with a status request and we will provide any available information.

Attaching Screenshots, Profiles, and Logs

While you may submit a bug from an iOS device, we suggest submitting from your Mac so that you can attach relevant files, such as screenshots. Folders can be uploaded as compressed file archives. To compress a folder on Mac, right-click or Control-click on the folder and choose Compress from the menu that appears.

Be sure to include any necessary profiles and logs to expedite our investigation process. A Mac System Information Report is required for crashes or kernel panics, reports against hardware, and issues with printing. After reviewing your report we may ask for additional files, which you can attach after submission.

Once your files are uploaded, you can access and download them from within Apple Bug Reporter. Select the desired bug from the bug list, navigate to the attachment list for that bug, and click the download icon on the attachment.

Viewing Your Reports

Bug reports are separated into the following categories:

  • Attention: Information has been updated and action may be required.
  • Open: These reports are still being investigated.
  • Closed: These reports have been resolved.
  • Drafts: These reports have not been submitted.

Bug reports that require your attention will show with an exclamation point (!) in your problem list, and will be available as ‘Attention’ in your problem filter. These reports either need more information to investigate the issue, or have been updated with new information. Once you update the bug report, it will no longer appear as requiring your attention.

Older Bug Report Data

As part of our commitment to privacy, we’ll soon be removing developer data from certain bug reports starting late fall of 2018.

Data will be removed from inactive bugs. Bugs that have been closed for at least five years, have not been updated for 60 days, and are not a duplicate of another bug will have developer data removed. Developer-originated sysdiagnoses and related attachments will be deleted, and any reference to the bug originator will be redacted. In addition, these bugs will no longer display in Bug Reporter.

Duplicate bugs will remain available for a limited time. If a bug is marked as a duplicate, developer data will be removed once the original bug has been closed for five years and has not been updated for 60 days. Until then, you can continue to follow the state of the original bug until it’s closed, and engineering can still reach out to you until the bug is resolved.

How do I reopen a closed report?

If you see the issue after your report is closed, update your report and we will review it.

I receive an error when uploading a file to my report. What should I do?

Some files include a bundle of applications or files. If you receive an error message (such as NSPOSIXError Domain) while trying to upload a file, try compressing the file and uploading it again. If you continue to experience issues, let us know in your bug report and we will contact you with an alternative way to send the file.

Where do I send feedback about Apple Bug Reporter?

Bugs or enhancement requests related to Apple Bug Reporter itself can be submitted within Apple Bug Reporter.

As a Windows user, what configuration information should I submit with my report?

Upload a text file containing the Windows system, Apple software version, and build numbers.

Can I request technical support for a bug report?

Yes, if you are an Apple Developer Program member. To request code-level support, submit a Technical Support Incident (TSI) after you have filed the bug report. Your incident will be assigned to a developer technical support engineer who can provide a workaround if one is available.
