How should portrait upside-down orientation be handled on iPhone Duo?

I understand that on iPhone Duo the outer display should behave like a regular iPhone and not support portrait upside-down, while the inner display should allow portrait upside-down, similar to an iPad.

What is the recommended way for an app to handle this difference in supportedInterfaceOrientations?

In particular, how should an app determine whether UIInterfaceOrientationMaskAll or UIInterfaceOrientationMaskAllButUpsideDown should be returned?
