El Capitan, Xcode 8.2.1, iOS 10.3.3

Hello. I searched the forums and found no answers.

I'm running Xcode 8.2.1 on OS X 10.11.6 on a MacBook Pro (Mid 2009), which are the latest supported software versions, as far as I am aware, for that hardware.

I need to develop an app for an iPhone 5 running 10.3.3.

When I try to run a Hello World project on the iPhone, Xcode gives the following error message:

"This iPhone 5 (Model A1428) is running iOS 10.3.3 (14G60), which may not be supported by this version of Xcode."

What do I need to do to develop an app with the following set up?

  • Xcode 8.2.1
  • OS X 10.11.6
  • iOS 10.3.3

Does Apple really expect me to spend hundreds of dollars, which I cannot spare, to buy newer hardware to run Xcode?

If so, how does this make any sense other than greed and planned obsolescence?

You're right - you can't get there from here w/that setup.

iOS 10.3.3 requires Xcode 9.0 or higher. Xcode 9.x requires minimum macOS 10.12.6 ...that combination is your target.

Can't help w/your rhetoricals.

Good luck.
