Is the iPad Air 2 the only iPad simulator to support biometrics?

The below code seems to result in an error of "Biometry is not available on this device." on all iPad simulators other than iPad Air 2.

I've tried older versions of iOS such as 9.3 up to current 11.3. I've tried enrolling and un-enrolling the different simulators with Hardware->Touch ID->Enrolled.

I'm always getting the same error on all iPad sims except Air 2. All iPhone devices seem to function as expected, including iPhone X.

With iPad Air 2, I receive “No identities are enrolled." when not enrolled (as expected) or when enrolled, no error at all.

Am I doing something wrong? Do I need to do something more with the other simulators to get touchID functioning other than enrolling them?
