Renew Mac App Distribution certificate

I got an email that my Mac App Distribution certificate will expire soon. So I signed in and downloaded a new app distribution profile but when I double-click it, it I get an error that says "Only Development Provisioning Profiles can be installed in System Preferences. Production Provisioning Profiles are imported within Xcode." So I go to Xcode and I don't see where to import it. In Xcode Preferences under Accounts, I clicked on Manage Certificates, but it only lists them. If I hit the + button I get an error that says "You already have a current Mac App Distribution certificate or a pending certificate request."

How do I go about updating my Mac App Distribution certificate before it expires this month???

No need to download anything else if the latter is true, because it confirms you've already renewed and updated on your end.

Which means you're done. I don't see the issue.

Also, when I sign in to itunesconnect, I see I already have a Mac App Distribution certificate that does not expire for another year, but I have 2 others that expire this month. It is unclear to me what they are for. I have 2 apps in the App Store already and am wondering if they are specific to those apps? It doesn't say what they are for. Do I download them or revoke them? So confusing!

A certificate is not a profile. Those are two different things.

Then you don't need to create a new one. Is this new one installed in Keychain Access? Is it visible in Xcode Prefs/Accounts?

If this is about housecleaning, use Keychain Access to delete duplicate/expired certificates.

If this is about profiles, refresh the ones you need next time you update those apps using Xcode.
