Can I use an old version of xcode to submit an app?

I have an older version of Xcode - mainly as I don't want to upgrade my MBP to Yosemite.

I'm playing about with xcode for an app that I wanted for myself more than for anyone else - as I've been told by others that the best way to learn isn't to learn to code - rather to start with a problem and build something for that.

The version I have is from 2013 (don't have the exact version)

I've noticed the Apple website states to use the updated version of xcode to submit... if I don't have it am I just wasting my time?

Any advice is great.

Thanks in advance.

The latest requirement when you submit apps is here:

64-bit Requirement for App Updates

You need to build your app with iOS 8 SDK (and later, everyone believe), with 64-bit support, in all apps submittion including updates.

If you are using Mavericks, you can update your Xcode upto 6.2 which contains iOS SDK 8.2 and 64-bit support.

But, now Yosemite is getting quite better, it's time you can consider upgrading to Yosemite.
