Could not find developer disk image

Hello All,

I've got Xcode 7.2.1 and iOS 9.3.1. From my reading around, people said update Xcode to the latest version which I couldn't do through the app store. So I just downloaded it from the developer portal. However when I try to install Xcode 7.3, I get the error : You have OS X 10.10.5. The application requires OS X 10.11 or later.

I went into About This Mac >> Software Updates and it says No updates available.

So I can't update Xcode to 7.3, can't update my Mac's OS, nor can I downgrade my iOS version of my phone. What can I do?! I want to deploy my app onto my phone for testing (which I was able to do before the update of the iOS 9.3.1).

Thanks!!

Find a friend who has a Mac with Xcode 7.3 installed and connect your phone to it. Once 7.3 has installed the developer disk image you will be able to use it with older Xcode versions.

And be more careful about upgrading things such as your iOS version in future 🙂 You always need to check compatibility first. This sort of thing is 100% normal - Apple obsoletes their developer tools very fast and if you are serious about developing, you need to budget for regular hardware upgrades to keep up with the OS versions.

Oh no! I didn't know that. That's how you know that I am a n00b developer haha!

Apart from using somebody elses' laptop, is there no way around it? Why can't I install Xcode 7.3 on mine? How can I install this? I have a MBP, retina 13 inch with OS X Yosemite.

Thanks!

Hmm, a retina MBP should be able to run El Capitan. Have you tried installing it via the Mac App Store?

(Always do a full backup first... Time Machine at a minimum; I prefer something like Carbon Copy Cloner)

Xcode 7.3 requires El Cap, that's why. Upgrades are in your future all 'round.
