Debugger GPU report on Mac Pro 2013 shows 0%

I have a Mac Pro 2013 with D500's. Using Metal graphics shows the device as 'AMD Metal' (2x) and the default device is 'AMD Metal', yet XCode shows in the GPU report that the GPU utilisation is 0%. And CPU races at 120% with only 30fps.


The same app on a MacBook Pro (2013) with NVidia graphics shows GPU utilisation of about 50% and CPU utilisation of 20-30%.


I've also tried the Apple example program for Metal. Same thing...

  1. A bug in XCode Debugger? (I've tested XCode 7.3.1 and the v8 beta 6)
  2. A bug in Metal?
  3. A deficiency in the docs and Metal isn't capable of being accelerated by the Mac Pro D500's? (Even though it states that it is)


I asked on the Metal forum... Seems a bit tumbleweed over there...
