software update failed.

Recently 2 updates popped in my Mac. They are

  1. Command line tools beta 4 for Xcode 13.0.
  2. Command line tools for tools for Xcode 13.2.

I don't use Xcode and didnt download it. So I tried updating these but it won't update. When I click update, it updates as its suppose to be everything goes well as usual. After update it says that my Mac is upto date but after after a few seconds it reloads and goes back to the 1st place. It again says that Updates are available for your Mac. I tried doing in several times but it won't update. I would appreciate if anyone can help. And note that my laptop is a MacBook Air m1 (2020) and I bought it a month ago and its currently running on macOS Monterey.

First things first: I've run into this so many times I cannot count. I'm also sure I've solved it 90 ways.

Try the following first:

  1. Open Terminal.app
  2. When the prompt loads up, type: xcode-select --install, hit return
  3. There may be a prompt at some point requesting input of some sort like an "Okay" or password; this is always a 15 minute get it out of the way type thing for me, I do not recall--after everything has reached completion in some way, reboot. Reboot just one more time.
  4. Check and see if the updates are there.

If the updates are still there. You will maybe find more luck if you first remove this directory: /Library/Developer/CommandLineTools, then xcode-select --install

So I am also in the same trouble and "I don't want to install Xcode" the notification on the System Preferences bugs me a lot. I mean I know that there is an update and I also did install it but why is it reverting back? I don't use Xcode so why am I even getting this update in the first place? I would appreciate it if there is a way I can fix this.
