Help understanding Bonjour service and installing on iPhone 12

My wife connects to Bonjour services on her android device through a wifi connection. I really don’t even know what it is, but the more read into it I’m slowly starting to understand. My issue is how do I get the Bonjour services to show up on my wifi scans so that I can connect to it? Or can I at all? I’m really noob at this stuff and I would love to understand. Is there an app I can get to gain access to it or does it require a more technical approach? Any help would be much appreciated.

In the past it was possible to get Safari on Macs to show a list of Bonjour services by toggling a preference somewhere, but I believe that feature was removed at some point. I don't believe that iOS Safari could ever do that.

There are third-party iOS apps that claim to browse Bonjour services. (Search the App Store for "Bonjour"). I've not used any of them.

Generally Bonjour support is built-in to the app (or iOS subsystem) that needs it. For example:

  • The Apple TV app uses Bonjour as part of its Home Sharing subsystem.

  • The Terminal app on macOS uses Bonjour in its Shell > New Remote Connection window.

There isn’t a dedicated Bonjour browser built in to the sytem because Bonjour advertises services. In order to do anything useful with the results, you have to understand the protocol spoken by that service.

So, what sort of Bonjour service are you trying to work with?
