Screenshot size

I need to send screenshots, from my iPad Pro 12.9, to the Department of Insurance as fast as I can. I was told that they can’t be more than 50mg each. I can’t figure out how to convert the pixel size, which is all I could find in my search, to mg. I’m 68 and not very tech savvy. I’m not even sure what mg means. Can you help me please?

Thank you

They likely mean "MB" (megabytes) rather than "mg". This refers to the file size of your screen shot, as the file information shows in the Finder. Here's an example of the Finder information for a screen shot:

I've circled the file size in red. Note that in my example, the screen shot is 205 kilobytes (KB). A kilobyte is 1000 times smaller than a megabyte, so if your screen shot's size shows as kilobytes, you know it's definitely under the size limit.

What you could do:

  • take the screenshot of iPad
  • send it to the Mac
  • open it in Preview app
  • zoom out to reduce the size (click on - at top, 2 or 3 times)
  • take a new capture of the screenshot with cmd-shift-ctrl 4, selecting just the smaller image
  • open it again in Preview with cmd-N
  • You can now save the new file.

It should have largely reduced in size. If not enough, repeat with another zoom out.
