Wireless CarPlay connectivity question

I have a 2017 BMW 540 and noticed that wireless CarPlay uses the CarPlay Wifi connection (SSID: "BMW<last 5 VIN digits> CarPlay") which does not have internet connectivity (no router IP and no DNS entries). I realize that the connection protocol for wireless CarPlay uses Bluetooth to locate the iPhone then hands off authentication and further communication to the Wifi connection. It just seems odd that that car comes equipped with an LTE hotspot that you can't use to connect the iPhone to the internet while using CarPlay.

I have tried manually changing the CarPlay Wifi Router and DNS IP addresses on the phone while connected to the CarPlay SSID. This results in the "No Internet" message for the CarPlay SSID disappearing which tells me that it's resolving DNS names. And the CarPlay connection continues operating.

Is it possible to have the iPhone use wireless CarPlay AND connect to the car's Wifi hotspot at the same time?

Thanks for any suggestion that might be offered.

User-centric queries/comments such as this are perhaps best put to Apple's public community support forums, where Apple/AppleCare tends to monitor user comments, and/or Apple's twitter support account, vs. risking off-topic here in the dev forums, thanks and good luck.

Possible with some effort.

You want to use internet while beeing connected to Apple Carplay in your BMW.

If your car LTE hotspot is providing internet to the WIFI CarPlay network as a router device, iPhone would dual use the WIFI for CarPlay AND internet connectivity.

In order to have the LTE hotspot connect to the CarPlay WIFI you need the invisible CarPlay WIFI password.

Usually LTE routers use their WIFI interface as a WIFI access point. Very few can use the WIFI interface SAMETIME in station mode. Station mode allows the LTE router to dial into CarPlay WIFI.

The network topology looks like this then:
