Spam 4.3 (a)

Hello everyone,

I’ve reached out to Apple’s review team multiple times, but unfortunately, I haven’t received any clear or specific guidance on why my app was rejected. My app has been rejected several times with the reason “Spam” under guideline 4.3, and I still don't understand exactly which part of the app is problematic.

Even after providing the necessary information about the data, I resubmitted the app, and after a few days, it quickly moved into "In Review" status, but then was rejected within seconds with the same “Spam” message.

I have sent over 13 messages asking for specific feedback, and all I get are vague responses saying “It’s spam, refer to 4.3, fix your app, and resubmit.” However, when I review the guidelines, I don’t see any specific reasons for rejection that apply to my app.

I’m particularly confused because my app is a VPN, and when I check the guidelines, I see that apps in categories like dating and others are saturated, but VPN apps are not. My app uses completely dedicated servers, and the IP addresses are not found in any other apps.

Still, my app keeps getting rejected. If anyone has encountered a similar issue or has any insight into what might be causing this, I would greatly appreciate it if you could provide detailed guidance on what specifically needs to be changed to get the app approved.

Thank you!

"Hello,

Thank you for your patience as we considered your appeal.

The App Review Board determined that the original rejection feedback was valid. Your app does not comply with:

4.3(a) - Design

During our review, we found that this app duplicates the content and functionality of other apps submitted to the App Store, which is considered a form of spam and not appropriate for the App Store.

Apps submitted to the App Store should be unique and should not duplicate other apps. We encourage you to create a unique app to submit to the App Store. For more information about developing apps for the App Store, visit the Develop section of the Apple Developer website.

We appreciate your efforts to resolve this issue and look forward to reviewing your revised submission.

Best regards,

App Review Board"

This is the appeal ticket I received, and I want to thank the App Review team for considering my request.

Based on the message, I would appreciate it if other developers who have encountered this issue could help me resolve it.

As the core of my app is based on OpenVPN, which is not customizable, I am having trouble understanding what exactly the App Review team is referring to. Is the issue related to the UI/UX of the app, or are they referring to the core functionality of the app, since many other developers have used the same core functionality in their apps.

Please, if anyone has faced a similar situation and successfully resolved it, I would really appreciate guidance on what I should focus on to fix the issue.

Thank you for your help!

Hello, I have also developed a game, but I can’t get past the 4.3(a) spam rejection. If you have found a solution, could you please share what you did with me? Thank you.

Don't hijack a thread, especially one that's almost a year old and not really related to your own app's issue.

If your game is being rejected for being spam, raise a NEW post with information about YOUR app, and perhaps people can help you.

I am having the same experience. I have no problem with reviews rejecting submission, with some sort of explanation. But there is never an actual explanation, just copy/pasting of the policy text, which explains nothing concretely.

You can waste weeks and month on building new features and may all be a red herring because they actually meant something else.

It's very strange, I don't understand why they refuse to give a simple straight-forward answer.

"Your app is spam. Could be one of these 10 reasons, but we won't tell you wich."

"Ok, I have completely rebuild things, added new features and really proud. Your review actually motivated me to make the app even better, look at all these changes I have made. Thanks fro driving me to do better. Please accept now?"

"No, your app is spam. Could be any of these 10 reasons but we won't tell you which."

Have you had any luck since then? Any new advice they gave you? or did you end up just abandoning it?
