I want to boot Solaris on a Mac Pro 3,1

I have gotten Solaris 11.3 installed on my old Mac Pro 3,1 (Early 2008), but it seems if I turn it off, restart it into Mac OS, or sometimes for no apparent reason, it goes back into Mac mode and will not recognize the Solaris ZFS boot drive as a boot drive. Even though, just restarting from Solaris usually works. Does anyone have any idea where to do for info? I'm thinking the boot string in the EFI firmware is getting messed up and can't be easily reset to restart into Solaris. But there seems to be no way to retrieve it or set it. Then I have to reinstall it from scratch.

If anyone has any idea, please let me know. Thanks!

macOS Install/Setup/Configuration questions might have better luck over on Apple's public support forums, rather than here in DevForums, thanks and good luck.
