CarPlay video: what does "vehicle doesn't support features requiring asset" mean?

Our CarPlay app plays video on the car display through AirPlay video streaming in CarPlay Simulator ("Standard Video Playback"), and falls back to audio when video is unavailable.

On a real vehicle (wireless CarPlay, iOS 27.0.1) the iPhone log shows at connection:

vehicle supports theme assets: NO
supportedCarPlayFeatures: vehicle doesn't support features requiring asset (includes videoPlayback)
CarPlay videoPlayback supported: no

So CPSessionConfiguration.supportsVideoPlayback is false and the app can only show Now Playing. The same head unit shows parked video with another phone projection system, so the screen itself is capable.

  1. Is this a vehicle-side capability that only the automaker can enable?
  2. Is there any supported way for a CarPlay app to show parked video on such a vehicle?

A code-level support request is also open (DTS Case-ID 23112107). Thank you.
