Xcode not Starting Up

I'm a PC user for the most part but have used Mac OS to develop in the past. After a few years away from the Mac OS I upgraded to High Sierra and got the latest Xcode afterwards from the AppStore. Being used to Windows I double clicked the icon in the taskbar and of course that did nothing then I remembered Launcher and clicked again and then even double clicked - nothing. Am I missing a step?

Also of not when the Mac boots up I'm expecting to see the High Sierra back ground image but mine is plain with no picture.

Thanks

Harry

So, you have installed XCode.

What is the icon in the taskbar ? Are you sure it points to the new XCode ?

For the background, open system preferences and select Desktop and screensaver (I suppose that's the exact english title) ; here, select the background you want ; probably, you are presently set to plain colors.

Which model mac are you using?

How much physical ram? How much free space on your SSD?

The icon is the standard Xcode icon. You you were right the backdround was set to solid so I fixed that. Thanks.
