Watch OS 5, Series 3 Watch. Cannot update past beta 3

I've been struggling with this since Beta 4 came out. My iPhone 8+ absolutely refuses to update my Series 3 watch past Beta 3. I have removed and reinstalled profiles on the watch and the phone. I've unpaired the watch from the phone and set the watch up as new. No matter what I do, the last two betas (4 and 5) are either not seen by the watch, or not seen by the phone, or both. The updates just stopped after Beta 3. I can't figure out what is left to do. Is there a way to force the update without the phone, just to see if that is where the problem lies. And yes, I have the latest IOS 12 beta on the phone too, both devices are connected to the same wi-fi network and the bluetooth works on both. I'm flummoxed and out of ideas. I do not have this problem on any other devices running the Beta.

Thoughts, suggestions, workarounds?

It happened to me with the last beta on the 3LTE. For a couple of days it wouldn't upgrade but finally did. My Series1 has had no problems.

This time my 3LTE experiencing the same problems you've mentioned. I'll file a bug report.

I have the same problem.

The watchOS beta profile doesn't show up as installed on the watch in the watch.app

Instead, the profile shows up as installed on the iPhone itself. When installing the profile I definitely selected "Apple watch" as the destination.

I deleted the profile and installed again. No luck.

I had a recent iPhone replacement, though. I had to unpair the watch before handing the iPhone in for repairs and got a new iPhone back. I the restored the new iPhone from the backup. When I reconnected the Apple watch (which at that point seemed to have been wiped) the watch was somehow restored from the backup as well. All seemed well, but now I don't get anymore watch OS beta updates.

I had the same problem. I would open the developer site in safari on my iPhone and I noticed that it would install the certificate on my iphone and reboot my iphone. This afternoon I decided to mail the mobile config to myself and open it through mail. At that moment it rebooted my watch instead of my iPhone. And voila there was the update.

How did you download the config without it installing?

I downloaded it on my macbook

Eventually with enough tries, I finally got the configuration profile to install on my watch. Once that happened, I was able to download and install beta 5. The problem, so far as I can tell is that the watch seems to have trouble holding a wi-fi connection. Only after unpairing and repairing several times, setting up the watch as new each time, and each time putting the watch on my desired network (I have two in my house), and makng double-dog certain that my phone was on the same network, that the phone and watch were also paired nder bluetooth was I finally able to update.

This is way too complicated and finicky. It seems to me that the watch itself out to be able to do OTA updates without the phone, so long as the watch is connected to a wifi network.

That hadn’t occured to me. I’ll have to try this the next time I have a balky update.

Worked for me. Thanks, i've used that tip before. appreciate the reminder!

Same here, kept installing profile to watch but it installed on the phone when trying to grab it directly from the dev site. Emailed it to myself and that worked. Interesting that it also can't be installed using the Files app.
