guided access iOS 12 DOES NOT work - BLACK Screen

When I use guided access with iOS 12 or some version of iOS 11 , it does not work.

After 30 minutes it blanks out the screen.

I also tried, by selecting Options -> Timeout -> Set to 10 hours. But after around 30 minutes it blanks out again.

The "Options" is not intutive too, Once I set the timeout and tap anywhere outside , it the time out does not show 10 hours set previously.

So I have to tap on 'Options' again so that it closes and saves the timeout. After which I tap the home button thrice and it enters into the guided access mode for 10 hours, which is what the alert says.

Things work perfectly fine with iOS 10 or prior versions.

Its a known bug in IOS 12. The bug report number is: 31732519

Its impacting thousands of iPads that are set up for applications running on kiso mounted iPads like:

- Visitor Management

- Surveys

- Door Access Control

There is a fix starting with iOS 12.1.1 but you have to enable it manually in the iPad settings:

1. Display & Brightness > Auto-Lock and select "Never"

2. General > Accessibility > Guided Access > turn on "Mirror Display Auto-Lock".

3. turn on Guided Access like before. The screen stays active
