Xcode 10.1 won't update

When I try to update Xcode from version 10.0 to 10.1, it goes throught the whole download normally but when it gets to the end it stops. Every sign that it was updating disappears, and the update is not installed. The update is still available in the App Store.

I have tried restarting both the system and the App Store, and it still doesn't work. Any suggestions? Could it be space related? I have 9 Gb free and it says it only needs 6 to update, and the download is only 3. Also I there is no notification as to why it doesn't install, so not really helpfull at all.

I am using MacOS 10.14 (Mojave) on a MacBook Air (13-inch, Early 2015)

Definitely. No question. 9 gb isn't enough for the OS to stay afloat, much less allow the download and installation.

You need room for:

- the download

- the unpacked installer

- the installed application

- swap space for the OS

...total for those is near 30 gb, best I can guess.

Clear off dozens of GB free, empty the trash, try downloading/installing again and then immediately go shopping for a much larger drive.

Figure out how much drive you need, then double that, then double it again, or you'll just be right back where you are now in a very short time. Treat that MBA to something speedy while you're at it.
