Spotlight not rendering results for *anything*

Suddenly Spotlight is not rendering results for anything, it was working pretty well for me, including my Core Spotlight indexes and NSUserActivity items. But it won't even do 2+2 now, and nothing on my system has changed.

A friend is seeing the same thing with an entirely separate sample application, everything was working, now we can't get any results to display. Different systems, even different continents!

The only thing I can think of is perhaps something server-side is causing results rendering to fail locally? I understand that spotlight does both a local and web search. Since there have been no beta updates between this working and not, it's the only conclusion I can come to.

Does anyone have any information?

Definitely appears to be server related, works fine in AirPlane mode on an iPad and disconneted from the Internet in a simulator...

Time to work through that fallback code 😉, should obvioulsy just search locally if the network request fails!

Spotlight search is largely blank for me too, almost exactly as you described. Only calculator functions seem to work, along with intermittent success for app name search. The console shows one or more iOS processes crashing.

Everything seemed fine on July 26, then my next tests on July 30 (and all since) have had this result.

On an iPad Air restored with beta 4 alone (no backup restore, connected to wifi and my iCloud account), the search window starts out only showing the search field (instead of welcome text I've seen before). Typing "ma" displays expected results (Mail, Maps, some notes synced from iCloud, Pages documents, contacts, calendar, mail items, reminders, "Search Web/Search App Store/Search Maps". (I'm scrolling to see these.) Then typing "i" blanks everything out, only the search bar is left. Console shows searchd terminated due to unrecognized selector prs_arrayForKey:. (This is without installing any 3rd party apps, nor my development app.)

I'll file a bug report, but what I'm hoping for here is a workaround so we can keep testing our Core Spotlight features, and particularly Universal Links, which would seem to require an online connection. (But I'll try going online, going offline, and hitting a UL URL, perhaps that can work.)

I was having the same problems yesterday, but now that I have updated to beta 5 (available today 8/6) Spotlight seems to be working fine again with Airplane mode OFF.

Yep, beta 5 fixed it. Woohoo!
