watchOS 2 beta 5 crashes running watchOS 1 apps from the AppStore

Has anyone else noticed this? I know developers might need to migrate but up until this beta watchOS 1 style apps would run. I'm getting either a crash on launch (on all of my third-party watchOS 1 apps, mine and others like Twitter, Dark Sky, etc) or a "Unlock iPhone to view" message. Was getting the latter before a reboot of my watch but now I'm getting the former. Just wanting to confirm this is an issue for others as I didn't see anything in the release notes mentioning this.

I have resolved these problems by unpairing my Apple Watch and then pairing again and restoring the backup that is made when you unpair.

From the Watch app on iPhone, I choose Apple Watch > Unpair Apple Watch.

Now, apps from the App Store launch correctly along with their glances. Other improvements include the Music glance working correctly and Maps loading – two things that were failing after my update to watchOS 2 beta 5 but didn't mention in my previous post.

Note on Pairing

I had to skip setting a passcode on the Apple Watch during pairing. When I tried to set a passcode on my first pairing attempt, the Apple Watch never advanced from the new Passcode entry screen to the "Unlock with iPhone" screen. After entering and confirming the passcode, my iPhone advanced to a screen telling me that I needed to chose an "Unlock with iPhone" option from the Apple Watch, but the Apple Watch never advanced from the passcode to that screen.

To try and pair again, I had to press firmly on the Apple Watch to cancel pairing and reset the device. From the iPhone, I pressed "Back" which canceled pairing on the iPhone's end and returned to me to begining of the pairing process.

I too see an "Unlock iPhone to View" screen when trying to use an app from the App Store. I'm also experiencing other related problems, such as the corresponding Glances not loading.

Also, from the Watch app on iPhone, installing and uninstalling App Store apps doesn't seem to work. All attempts to install get stuck on "Installing…".

This is after several restarts of the Watch and paired iPhone.

I'm assuming after this process above you were able to set the passcode and get Apple Pay cards working. It's not a big deal if not just wondered if you tried that as well. This is the first beta where I've had to do a complete reset as the others upgraded file (though I did have to reset the sync data often). Just curious if those things were still working for you after reset and the skip.

Just tried this process myself, it's syncing in the final step but I had no trouble with setting a long passcode, just wanted to update those that might want to know. Will update if I can confirm the above that third party apps and Music, Maps, and glances, etc from above work again for me as soon as the sync finishes.

Ok I can confirm everything is working again (as Jason said). I've heard others state they needed to unpair and restore for each beta but up until now I haven't had to.

I have the same issue and unpairing the watch with the iPhone did not help. I did 5 times.

Everything seems to be fine but I can't install any app on it. All attempts to install get stuck on "Installing…" as above.

When I successfully managed to get apps installed I got "Unlock iPhone to view" message and all apps disappeared after reboot.

I really do not understand what's going on.

I think that if I go back and try to restore a backup it won't work. I have unpaired so many times that the backup will be the last not working.

Can anybody help me please?

Same issue here. Unpaired and re-paired then restored from backup and I'm back in business. Thanks!

I've unpaired and repaired but that didn't seem to help. My App Store watch apps launch, spin for about 30 seconds, then crash.

An update: I unpaired again and re-paired then set the watch up as a NEW watch (rather than restoring from backup), and now third party apps are working.
