Do Native HLS Players Support CSS Styling in Subtitles?

HLS Subtitles are supported via WebVTT. WebVTT will use CSS styles in the framing page but in the case of using a native player like QuickTime, directly browsing to an m3u8 in Safari on iOS or OSX, there is no obvious way to get CSS to the player.

The HLS specification doesn't explain any special metadata tags in the VTT that can be used to embed styles or reference CSS. Is there any way in the native players to style apart from bold, underline, italics and cue placement?

Thanks in advance for any feedback.
