A few years ago there existed a very nice utility called fseventer, which graphically traced all changes in the file system. Unfortunately, it does not work any longer on the latest OS X versions.
Is anybody aware of a replacement for this wonderful utility? It would most likely tie into Spotlight.

Actually, it’s more likely to be tied into the FSEvents API. If you’re looking to implement your own program similar to the one you mentioned, you should look to that API.
